All Things are Possible

Key Verse

Matthew 19:26

Additional Verses

Luke 18:27; Luke 1:37; Jeremiah 32:27; Mark 10:27; Philippians 4:13

Materials Needed

  • Rubik’s Cube or similar puzzle

Preparation

This object lessons uses a very common 3×3 puzzle cube often known as a Rubik’s Cube. The easiest way to do this object lesson is just to show the puzzle and demonstrate how difficult it is. However, if you have time and determination you can actually learn how to solve the Rubik’s Cube and finish the object lesson with that.

Object Lesson

(Show the Rubik’s Cube.)

Have you ever seen one of these before? It’s called a Rubik’s Cube! It’s basically a puzzle where you try to rotate the pieces so that you end up with each side having only one color on it. It is very difficult to do and many people used to think that it was impossible to solve.

(Demonstrate trying to solve it.)

It seems like the more you twist and turn the pieces the more messed up it gets. You might get ones side fixed, but when you try to solve the next side everything gets messed up again.

In life we often face difficult situations that seem like they are impossible. It can seem like the more we try to fix things and make them better the more messed up it gets. It can be very frustrating and at times we just feel like giving up!

The Bible says in Matthew 19:26 that with God ALL things are possible! It also says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do ALL things with Christ’s help. So we may face all kinds of difficulties and problems, but instead of just trying to fix them ourselves we should pray and ask God for help.

God can and will help us in those situation and He can take even the most impossible situation and work it out.

(If you have a good story about a situation in your life that seemed impossible and God worked it out, here would be a good spot to tell it.)

The Christmas Star

Key Verse

Matthew 2:2

Additional Verses

Luke 2:11; Numbers 24:17

Materials Needed

  • Star Christmas tree topper

Object Lesson

(For more Christmas ornament meanings please check out our heartwarming Christmas story book, The Jesus Tree.)

Around this time of year many of us put up Christmas Trees. Have any of you put up a Christmas Tree yet? What kinds of things do you decorate it with? (Allow for responses.)

(Show the star.)

Often times we will put a star up on the very top of the Christmas Tree. Do you know why we put a star on the top of our tree? In Matthew 2:2 we read that the wise men followed a very bright star that was shining in the sky and it led them to Jesus. So, we put a star on the top of our tree to remind us that the star lead the wise men to him.

God wants us to be like the star and lead people to Jesus too. We can let our light shine brightly so those people who are seeking the savior can find him. Are you shining brightly for Jesus? Are you pointing the way to him?

The Cards You Were Dealt

cards you were dealt

Key Verse

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Additional Verses

Ephesians 5:20; Philippians 4:6; Colossians 3:17

Materials Needed

  • Deck of cards

Object Lesson

Have you ever played a card came before? Maybe Old Maid, or Uno, or Go Fish? The way that many card games work is that they start out by dealing you a certain number of cards. (Deal out several cards for yourself.) They you have to look at your cards and play the game. Sometimes you get a really good hand of cards and you can play really well. Other times, your cards aren’t so good, but you still have to play the best that you can. Sometimes you can still win even if you were dealt a bad hand of cards.

In our life we were all dealt a hand of cards. Some of us have really good cards, and some of us have cards that are not so good. You might look at my cards and think that they are a piece of cake, and I may look at yours and think that they are easy, but that really doesn’t matter. We just have to play the cards that were given to us.

It’s easy for us to be thankful for the good cards that we have, but often times we aren’t thankful for the bad ones. God wants us to play both the good and bad as best as we can and be thankful and glorify him and praise him regardless of what we were dealt.

In my life I was dealt a set of cards, some are good and some are bad. (Set down some of the cards one-by-one while you say some good things and bad things that have happened in your life.) Some of these things are good and some are bad, but these are the cards that I was dealt. My job is to use them and play them the best way that I possibly can.

Many people just want to complain about their cards. Instead let’s be thankful for them and use them for the glory of God!

Joy to the World

Joy to the World

Key Verse

Isaiah 9:6

Additional Verses

John 3:16; John 1:14; Isaiah 7:14

Materials Needed

  • Piano or keyboard

Preparation

Joy to the World

This object lesson is based on the C scale on the piano. This scale is very easy to learn and to play. You simply start with a C note (the white key to the immediate left of the 2 black keys) and you play each white key (to the right) until you get to the next C note. It should sound like Do – Re – Mi – Fa – So – La – Ti – Do. Once you feel comfortable playing if forward, try to play it backward starting with the higher C and playing each white key to the right back down the scale. Then you can play the scale backwards once more but try to emphasize the notes so that it sounds like “Joy to the World.”

Object Lesson

Have any of you ever played the piano before or taken piano lessons? I don’t know a lot about the piano but I do know that it can tell us the greatest story in the whole world! Did you know that?

It’s true! All I have to do is play a simple C scale and it will tell us an amazing story. (Play the scale starting from the low C and working up to the high one.) That is a C scale, but I didn’t hear the story yet, did you? Maybe I did not do it quite right, maybe I should try playing the scale backwards. (Play the scale backwards from the high C note to the lower one.)

Did that sound like an amazing story to you? (Wait for a response.) I didn’t hear a very good story yet either! This time I will try to play that C scale backwards and put a few pauses in it. (Play it now so it sounds like “Joy to the World.)”

Did you hear that? What what is? Joy to the world, the Lord has come! That is a great story isn’t it? In fact, that is the greatest story in the world! In Isaiah 9:6 it talks about a child being born that will be our Savior! Do you know who that was talking about? Jesus!

See, hidden in this simple C scale is the most amazing story! The story about Jesus who came to earth thousands of years ago so that He could save us from our sins and offer us Salvation and a new life! Let us always remember that the greatest gift we have ever been given is when God sent His Son Jesus to save us!

Always Complaining

Joke about Complaining

There was a lady that was habitual grumbler and was constantly complaining about everything. One day her preacher thought he had discovered something that she could be happy about, because her farm crop was the best one for miles around. When he met her, he said with a big smile,”You must be very happy! Everyone is saying how healthy your potatoes look this year!”

She replied grimly, “True they’re pretty good, but what am I going to do when I need some bad ones to feed the pigs?”

Thankful for Trash

Thankful for Trash object lesson

Key Verse

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Additional Verses

Ephesians 5:20; Philippians 4:6; Colossians 3:17

Materials Needed

  • Bag of garbage

Object Lesson

What things are you thankful for? (Allow for a few responses.) Many of us are thankful for the same kinds of things: home, transportation, job, school, family, friends, church, and the list goes on.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:18 it tells us to give thanks in EVERYTHING! Not just the good things! A home is good, right? Food is good! Families are good. But this verse tells us to give thanks in everything! Does that mean we can be thankful for things that aren’t so good?

(Take out the bag of garbage and show everyone.)

Are you thankful for trash? This is pretty gross and disgusting isn’t it? How in the world can you be thankful for trash? Well, I am thankful for trash because this shows that I had enough to eat and the things that I need in my life. If I didn’t have anything then I wouldn’t have trash either.

But there are some people in this world that are even more thankful for trash than I am. Did you know that in many countries, like Ethiopia, people’s lives depend on the trash! They will sort through the fresh trash and get plastic bags to recycle for money. They will also find used clothing, shoes and sometimes even food. If it wasn’t for the trash those people wouldn’t be able to survive!

Now, I believe that we should help people who have great needs like that, but I also think that hearing their story can help us to be even more thankful to God for the things that we have. It helps us to not take for granted the food and clothing that we have and use everyday.

Let us always remember to be thankful, not just for the good things, but also for the bad things! Let us also remember to be willing to help those people who are in need and have much less than we do.

Horn of Plenty

Horn of Plenty

Key Verse

Philippians 4:19

Additional Verses

Psalm 36:8; Matthew 10:29-31; Psalm 37:25

Materials Needed

  • Cornucopia
  • Fruits and vegetables to fill up the cornucopia

Object Lesson

Often at Thanksgiving people will decorate their homes with a cornucopia. They will fill it with fruits and vegetables and call it a Horn of Plenty. This cornucopia is a symbol of having more than enough food to provide for your family, and that is one of the things that we are very thankful to God for.

In Philippians 4:19 the Bible says that God will provide all that we need according to His riches. It is like God has a giant cornucopia with everything that we could ever need. He provides for us from His own riches. Sometimes we can try to take credit for the things that we have. We think that because we work hard and make money to buy things that we have provided for ourselves. In reality God is the one that provides for us. If we have a job or get an allowance it is only because God has provided for us and has given us health and the opportunity to work and grow and remain healthy, for this we can exercise and have a good diet and also take supplements from these physio omega reviews, that are good for our body and heart.

It is important to be thankful for the things that God has provided for us. We should realize that He is the one that provides for us and takes care of us. Even if your parents take care of you, it is the Lord that gives them the ability to do it.

During Thanksgiving let us be grateful to God for the great things that He has done for us!

Home for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Joke

An Elderly man living in Denver calls his son a couple of days before Thanksgiving and says, “Son, I have called to tell you that your mother and I are getting a divorce. After 35 years we have had enough!”

The son was shocked and replied, “Dad why are you doing this?”

The father replied, “I can’t stand your mother anymore, she is always getting on my nerves, and I never want to see her again. Now, call your sister and let her know.” Then he hung up.

The son calls his sister and tells her about the upcoming divorce. The sister replied, “There is no way we can let this happen after all these years, we have to do something.”

The son calls his father back and says, “I talked to my sister and we will be there tomorrow! Don’t do anything until we get there. Don’t sign any papers, don’t get a lawyer, don’t do anything!” Then the son hangs up the phone.

The father looks to his wife and says, “Well, it looks like the kids are going to be coming for Thanksgiving and they will be paying for their own flights!”
